Public Speaking
Museum of British Colonialism
The team at the Museum of British Colonialism (MBC) are passionate about bringing narratives of British imperial histories to the fore. I have worked with MBC since 2022 as part of the digital comms team. As part of a small team, I have designed and implemented a digital content strategy with a focus on social media, newsletters, and YouTube content. I also work on funded research projects, exhibition development, and recently, a website re-design.
Community Curators
An ongoing project at The Highlanders’ Museum (a regimental museum near Inverness, Scotland), Community Curators puts co-production at the heart of curatorial practice. From research-based projects and re-interpretation, to temporary exhibitions with long-lasting impact and community produced art projects; Community Curators works with local, national, and international communities to readdress the colonial histories of this regimental museum.
Hidden Histories with Smartify
Smartify is the world’s biggest museum app, with over 3 million users world wide. Using this global platform, I created a ‘hidden histories’ audio guide for The Highlanders’ Museum to create an alternative tour of the permanent collection, focussed on drawing out historic links to slavery and colonialism. An exciting use of digital designed to engage younger tech-savvy audiences, this project involved re-researching the collections and navigating complex, traditional interpretation.
Decolonial Focus
In partnership with Chris Berriman (PhD candidate, University of Hull), Decolonial Focus delivers bespoke workshops for museums looking to decolonise their collections. Develop your understanding of complex colonial histories, receive collection-tailored advice, and build the conifdence to take the first steps in decolonial practice.
Decolonisation Collective
Selected to be part of the Museums Association’s sector steering group for decolonisation, I have received specialised training, reviewed the MA’s Decolonisation in Museums module, and created a network of like-minded museum professionals.
Public Speaking
Throughout 2023, I have been invited to speak at several conferences about my work on decolonisation and co-production; these include the National Army Museums conferences, and Sealladh Museums & Heritage Highland Conference.
